Connolly Characters ..

Talked with a preschool class this morning .. explaining my work and how I enjoy working with found objects .. that old rusty bits which I just dug up from a friend's garden are like found treasure to me. I see potential in the shapes and colours of scrap metal, odd finds like buttons, feathers, shells etc. And since a child I see faces in a lot of the material I assemble .. I suppose being an extravert its not surprising that most of my work is figurative .. I enjoy the Character of the piece and for the last few years have been making artworks .. paintings, prints, drawings, assembled works of people and creatures .. they are the Connolly Characters that I post daily on facebook and that live in my studio and in galleries where I exhibit and then there are those that now live in private collections across the world .. some in England, others made it to Australia but most of them are here with me in Wilmington NC.
